The Bayat Institute of Technology at The American University of Afghanistan: Launching a New Era of Scholarship, Technical Innovation and Growth For Afghanistan

Here at The Bayat Foundation, we’ve been proud to be a strong and steadfast partner to The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), since AUAF’s founding in 2006. On March 31, 2018, the partnership between The Bayat Foundation, AUAF—and achieving our collective goal of creating an Afghanistan that provides education and opportunity to everyone—took a tremendous step forward with the opening of The Bayat Institute of Technology (BIT), at The American University of Afghanistan.

The Bayat Institute of Technology is a 32,000 square foot Science and Technology Teaching and Research Center. The mission of The Bayat Institute of Technology is to inspire, encourage and enable members of the AUAF community to undertake teaching, research and scholarship which increases the nation’s collective scientific and technical knowledge and supports Afghan led scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition to sponsoring the construction of the Bayat Institute of Technology, our Foundation has established a $1,000,000 endowment for the BIT, which will be used to pay for the building’s operational costs.

The Bayat Institute of Technology will provide AUAF’s students and faculty with our region’s most innovative and advanced Scientific and Technological teaching and research facilities, including:

  • Three Media and Technology Labs
  • Physics Lab
  • Chemistry Lab
  • Biology Lab
  • Seminar Room
  • Lecture Hall
  • IT Lab
  • Library
  • Six (6) General Class Halls
  • Twenty-two New Faculty Offices
  • Two Prayer Halls
  • Atrium Social Center

The Bayat Institute of Technology will serve not only as a great center of technological education, but also, as an incubator and accelerator of a brighter future for Afghanistan—a future that is based on creating technology-based products and services which will expand private-sector economic growth and create jobs for every Afghan, in every region of our country. AUAF’s student-scholars are so intelligent and so capable of innovation, that we here at the Foundation are certain that the founders of the next Google, Twitter—or even the next Afghan Wireless—are among us already.

Without any doubt, our nation needs our young people to transform their curiosity about Technology and Science into professional careers as the Engineers, Scientists and Technology innovators, who can transform their ideas into the roads, power plants, medicines, technological breakthroughs, and new companies which Afghanistan needs to become a modern, thriving nation.

We’re hopeful that The Bayat Institute of Technology will empower and inspire generations of scholars to create technologies, products and services which will establish new industries, and new ways of connection, new ways for people to apply their talents, and new ways for Afghans—and people throughout the world—to live the best lives possible.

The Bayat Institute of Technology at The American University of Afghanistan is a powerful example of the partnership between The Bayat Foundation and AUAF—a partnership that is providing AUAF’s students with an academically rigorous and valuable scientific and technical education. And it is together, in the spirit of enduring and unbreakable partnership, that The Bayat Foundation, The Bayat Institute of Technology and AUAF will help educate, empower and support a new generation of Afghan innovators.

Until next time,
